Svaneti is a historical region in northwestern Georgia. To the North, towards the Great Caucasus range, medieval towers of Svanetian villages nest within this stunning environment offering unique destination to adventure-travelers.
Mestia, Svaneti’s regional center, can boast a unique collection of icons and manuscripts. Medieval “koshki-s” or towers spring up in clumps around homesteads. Each family house has its own tower, most of them dating back to the 12th century.
Ushguli, at an altitude of 2,400 meters above sea level (the highest village in Europe), was declared UNSECO World's Cultural Heritage in 1994. The village of Ushguli displays breathtaking view of the peak of Mt. Shkhara (5,203m. – 17,070 ft), the highest summit in Georgia and the source of the Enguri River.
